Welcome

The St. Jerome Biblical Guild is an educational apostolate founded by Salvatore J. Ciresi.

The St. Jerome Biblical Guild propagates the study of Sacred Scripture with fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. This apostolate takes its name from St. Jerome, "The Father of Biblical Studies," and labors by God's grace to accomplish the following:

  • Explain the various Bible study tools and academic resources; for individual research or study clubs and groups.

  • Present studies from Scripture on specific books (e.g., the Gospel of St. Luke) or general themes (e.g., the Biblical roots of home-schooling).

  • Promote the classic exegetical methods and insights found within Catholic Tradition; with attention to the Church Fathers and St. Thomas Aquinas.

  • Advance the Magisterial doctrines of Biblical inspiration and inerrancy; the latter the main focus of the apostolate.

Time constraints prevent this web site, an extension of the apostolate, from serving in an interactive manner by answering e-mail questions. The site strives to be a modest repository of information on the Catholic Faith.

The St. Jerome Biblical Guild is spiritually united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Guild also seeks the intercession of St. Therese of Lisieux for favors and protection. In all things, this apostolate aims to function for the greater glory of God (cf. Prov. 16:3; Col. 3:17).

St. Jerome writes: "When I read the Gospel and find there testimonies from the Law and from the Prophets, I see only Christ; I so see Moses and the Prophets and I understand them of Christ. Then when I come to the splendor of Christ Himself, and when I gaze at that glorious sunlight, I care not to look at the lamplight. For what light can a lamp give when lit in the daytime? If the sun shines out, the lamplight does not show. So, too, when Christ is present the Law and the Prophets do not show. Not that I would detract from the Law and the Prophets; rather do I praise them in that they show forth Christ. But I so read the Law and the Prophets as not to abide in them but from them to pass to Christ" (Treatise on the Gospel of Mark 9:1-7).
